Walk me over the rise If you believe it, is it still a lie? You've got caves in your face and the wind's blowing through It's a shame the things we things we think we have to do Keep that silver spoon to remind you Sharpen your harpoon, they'll find you Oh Bring me that bottle painted a medical blue Oh I hope you don't think about me as much as I Think about you Your grandfather let out a cry 'You don't eat, you don't shit, you don't shit you die' He's got more advice for you too Drinking that bachelor's brew Cussing along to the news He won't let you know he's so easily bruised It's a shame the things we things we think we have to do Keep that silver spoon to remind you Sharpen your harpoon, they'll find you Oh Bring me that bottle painted a medical blue Oh I hope you don't think about me as much as I Think about you Oh, something's wrong Something's wrong again Ahhhhh

My hungry eyes are crying out for more but I can hardly fit through the door I'll be relegated for sure to be rolling on the floor Why did I eat so much food? I'll be maxing out that visa debit but that hotpot, man, I've got to get it Oh brother I know you thought it but I went ahead and said it Why did I eat so much food? Salt and pepper pain in my stomach once again Didn't picture it this way I thought that we'd be rolling in the hay oh, I know it's only Toblerone but my god, it feels like clay Why did I eat so much food? Find a witch and turn me to a cow take a look and see who's smiling now I've got more stomachs than eyebrows, and I'll fill up all the hours with pecan pie and toblerone and you Why did I eat so much food? Salt and pepper pain in my stomach once again

Well, Jesus Christ I know that he was not a lot older than me when he claimed to be all of those things he claimed to be But don't try to say that I don't admire the man that they all called a liar it's just that dying is a big responsibility & I know that if it was on me & I didn't think that I would make it out of my 30s the job description that would come to me would probably not be 'Carpenter'

You got by, you ran dry and what do you do when you can't go home? You had time But you waited this long just to watch it go away Aritficial Brain Sometimes, oh sometimes a man wishes he wasn't born at sea I'm all vowels babe consonants are a luxury to me it's an artificial breeze You got by, you ran dry and what do you do when you can't go home? You had time But you waited this long just to watch it go away Aritficial Brain In the artificial breeze (repeat a bit)

the darkest day of the year and my heart is on the rail the darkest day of the year and whose hand is at the wheel whose hand's at the wheel who will tell 'em what has happened out here beyond the dawn out here beyond the horizon who will tell 'em that you're gone oh, the breaking sigh no answer in the mystery once you held me helpless once it mighta been cold was sharp across the high desert you and me in the secrets once it must have been not only my heart on the rail once it must have been no hand was at the wheel that no hand was at the wheel

You're a sad little part of my life Oh, I know I wish that you were bigger & you make me want to stay in my dreams longer and longer and longer and longer There's a devil creeping up on me Gonna use my soul for kindling and timber & His voice is like a tambourine Ringing underwater in the winter I wanna hear the alcohol in my mouth I've forgotten more songs than I remember But if I live a couple decades more I'm sure I'll wish that I'm a couple decades younger There's a devil creeping up on me Gonna use my soul for kindling and timber & His voice is like a tambourine Ringing underwater in the winter ain't the greatest gals born on a ain't the greatest gals born on a December ain't the greatest gals born on a ain't the greatest gals born on a December There's a devil creeping up on me Gonna use my soul for kindling and timber & His voice is like a tambourine Ringing underwater in the winter I've written songs about Louisianne Though I ain't never been to America And I don't even have a flag And I'm scared of guns, but I've got a bumper sticker There's a devil creeping up on me Gonna use my soul for kindling and timber & His voice is like a tambourine Ringing underwater in the winter I'll be swimming in your pockets (high harmony) I'll be in your brain, twirling all the dials I'll be swimming in your pockets (high harmony) I'll be in your brain, twirling all the dials There's a devil creeping up on me Gonna use my soul for kindling and timber & His voice is like a tambourine Ringing underwater in the winter I feel like a shitty hotel my knives are damp and my food's been there for ages well my dumbwaiter ain't much but it's mine but my bookshelves are like animal cages

You closed your eyes and saw a land of sulfuric underground fire & you thought that'd suit you fine so you set yourself a-tumbling down I walk into your house and all the fish stop swimming 'round maybe they feel it too everybody thought that I was singing about god but I was singing about you Everyone you love is still alive you're waiting for someone to take a dive Mmm You're not groovy you're not groovy you're not groovy at all When I hear you talk I could open a non-screwtop bottle with my bare hands when you call me out I feel like the dog that couldn't bark I walk into your house and all the fish stop swimming 'round maybe they feel it too everybody thought that I was talking about god but I was talking about you Everyone you love is still alive you're waiting for someone to take a dive Mmm You're not groovy you're not groovy you're not groovy at all Alright I walk into your house and all the fish stop swimming 'round maybe they feel it too everybody knew that I was talking about you did you even want me to? Everyone I love is still alive they might as well be on the other side Mmm I'm not groovy I'm not groovy I'm not groovy at all

You don't have a lot of songs in your heart but you don't charge for the ones that you find but the wolves have got the scent on your clothes and they know and the ink is running down your arms Where'd you go? and how long have you been gone? You don't have a lot of fear in your eyes but bring her up and you'll bring it all out and I can't say enough to you in my mind to make it seem like you're around Where'd I go? and how long have I been gone? Well, wherever it was It rained so hard, I forgot who I was thought I was a bird on the road, getting killed by cars made of howling steel all studded with stars and it rained so hard the whole damn town sank into the sea I don't have a lot of love in my life but lord, I've got a lot of pills Where'd I go? and how long have I been gone? Well, wherever it was It rained so hard, I forgot who I was thought I was a bird on the road, getting killed by cars made of howling steel all studded with stars and it rained so hard the whole damn town sank into the sea Shirley, oh Shirley, surely you know that there ain't no time to be wasting and even if we had that time surely now wouldn't be the time to be wasting that time Don't close the lid on me, I Won't close the lid on you (x2) Casey, oh Casey, in case you don't know We've got another joint to be casing and even if we had that dough we wouldn't really have that dough Don't close the lid on me, I Won't close the lid on you (x2) Amanda, Amanda, a man doesn't know how many steps he'd be taking to walk across the waves to you walk across the waves and start wasting your time Don't close the lid on me, I Won't close the lid on you (x2) Well, wherever I was I wrote you a note out of cuttlefish bone tried to sing it to you, but my throat was on loan and all of the well-known nobodies went home and it rained so hard the whole damn town sank into the sea Into the sea

about

This album (except for one vocal take and a touch of New Zealand-based mastering) is entirely a product of a 2014 spent in Cork City, Dublin, Liverpool, Drogheda, London, Belfast, Bicester, Kinsale, Inishmore, Amsterdam, Berkhamsted, Southend-On-Sea and the Irish Sea.

Recorded in whichever room I was in at the time, a farm, Soteria: a gaff rigged schooner and the Dublin College of Music (thanks Alex),

Performed and mixed by me.

Thank you to everyone who made friends with me along the way!
